    Week 2-5

Week 2: we talked about problems and unfairness in schools and workplaces. We discussed how it is more important to truly understand what we learn instead of only studying for grades. When students take time to understand and study the meaning of the material, they understand more then instantly on to a totally different topic the next day. But if students only memorize information to pass a class, they may forget it later and not know how to apply it outside of school. Another topic we discussed was the difference between public and private schools. Depending on the school system, students may receive different types of education and opportunities. Public…

In Composition II, we mostly went over how to structure an academic essay. I learned NOT to underline titles (which is honestly my first reflex) and how to actually build a thorough and consistent outline for my writing. Regarding an arguable claim that’s both specific and broad enough to explore without being incontrovertible. In Intro to Ethnography, I honestly enjoyed the class reading of the interviews of the workers from Idorca. Although ethnography is terrible, I did enjoy the concept of interviewing others to gain their individual perspectives on a matter. It let us see the heart and personalities behind the people subjected to the research.

    Blog 8: May 4th & 6th

In this week’s English Composition classes, we focused on our research assignment. We created an outline for our essays and how to format them. The outline was a little hard because its time consuming finding evidence from sources that would best fit my thesis statement. Creating my thesis statement was pretty easy because I had searched up examples of how to create a good thesis statement. It is expected that there are 4-5 body paragraphs, one of which includes a rebuttal. Professor Rachel further helped me improve my thesis to be as clear as possible. I found many sources that could help support my essay, as well as non-scholarly sources.…

Article 149 helped factory workers fight for democracy and this resulted in unions being formed to strengthen work production without a hierarchy. This was a stepping stone workers having power over their hours and how they operate. This was in Venezuela at the time under President Chavez. Craziest thing about it is that there are unions formed all around the world and it stems from the idea that workers want to have some sort of power instead of being controlled and forced to work for profit.
