Autobiography Jennifer Perez
After a long night of partying, I came home and sat in front of my vanity. I was exhausted, and all I could think of was falling asleep in my fluffy bed. But I couldn’t. Not yet, my face still had makeup on. “Ughhhh,” will this cycle ever stop? “ I’m exhausted from this. There’s not a day that I don’t do my makeup. “But that’s the only thing I have that brings me confidence, I don’t know what I would do without my makeup because beneath all this is acne and scars” As I held my CVS makeup remover wipe, slowly removing my purple eyeshadow. All I ever wished…

Today, we watched a documentary called People’s Park, which took place in China. This film was recorded by two ethnographers who filmed people in China without their consent. This film showed how people in China interact with their community. I did not enjoy this film because kids were being recorded, and the ones recording didn’t even care enough to learn a bit of the language to try to communicate with the people or make them feel comfortable. This film is also making a profit out of the people’s community; it feels like these ethnographers are invading their privacy.

This week, for ethnographics on Wednesday, we visited Bryant Park, where we were divided into groups of five; each group had a different reading. My group read about communism, and after reading about it, we discussed it. After that, all the groups came together and had a debate about whether transaction is the same as exchange. My thoughts on this are that it all comes down to how you are raised and how you see the outside world and treat people. I believe in giving back to people without expecting anything in return.

Add Post Today, for Composition 2, we wrote about the Met Gala and what stood out to us. Emma Chamberlain’s dress stood out to me because it reminded me of the solar system, but at the same time, it looked like the dress had been painted on. The sleeve part of the dress reminds me of a waterfall as well. Professor Rachel also gave the class examples on how to write a thesis statement. After that, we worked on our argumentative essays for the rest of the class.

This week for ethnographic class we watched a film about Worker Control in Venezuela, a film by Dario Azzellini & Oliver Ressler. In this film, workers who worked in factories spoke about working together as a union instead of being runned by private individuals. Factory workers spoke about private individuals making more money than the workers themselves. These workers work long hours with little pay and lack of health care benefits. The workers believe in money being distributed equally within the factories instead of working in a capitalist economic system. Carmen Ortiz quotes “Working collectively is much better than working for another–working for another is like being a slave to…

Park Project Blog 5
This park observation project was fun to do because I was able to enjoy the green space in my community. I was able to observe that anyone who comes to this park participates in some kind of activity, whether that’s having a soccer match, running on the track, or bringing your kids to play in the playground. This park is well taken care of by the community and the park maintenance workers. The recreational center provides free events for the community. Such as zumba sessions.

This week in ethnographic, we started working on our local park project where we pick a park that is in our neighborhood and write down what we observe. We placed virtual pins on the selected park on the website tinyurl.com/house4map. In class we worked on researching the history behind the park and what native tribes used to inhabit the land. For instance, I found out that my local park was once a reservoir for the community’s water supply but then ended up being turned into a park during the New Deal proposed by Franklin D. Roosevelt. The park was also named after John Williams in the 18th century, who owned a…
