Autobiography Reflection – Week 11
Writing my autobiography was interesting, because I was forced to immerse myself in the culture of my past in a combined effort of my personal object from Ethnography: my instrument. Let me explain. I choose to personify my alto saxophone, which had a black body, gold highlights and silver keys. My late band teacher had given me that saxophone for a short time coming up to my first solo-lead performance of Isfahan by Duke Ellington at the Apollo Theatre. Weekly Blog #9 (5/17)
In English Composition II we worked more on our writing pieces while exploring the concept of art, meaning and its association to us. I particularly enjoyed the small debate we had in Intro to Ethnography because it forced me to actively recognize the difference in academic, ethnographic and cultural perspectives, and how data itself won’t always contradict one another but it is important to apply our academic data in context to the circumstance.

Weekly Blog #8 (5/8)
In Composition II, we mostly went over how to structure an academic essay. I learned NOT to underline titles (which is honestly my first reflex) and how to actually build a thorough and consistent outline for my writing. Regarding an arguable claim that’s both specific and broad enough to explore without being incontrovertible. In Intro to Ethnography, I honestly enjoyed the class reading of the interviews of the workers from Idorca. Although ethnography is terrible, I did enjoy the concept of interviewing others to gain their individual perspectives on a matter. It let us see the heart and personalities behind the people subjected to the research.

From English 101 the poem we read about grief stuck with me because itโs a concept that no humans can illustrate alone in words, but an enemy more common than any thief. And its impact as it warps our perceptive of reality remains undetectable, unpreventable and undeniable. Because it deals with memories of our loved ones. Memories in our lives we cannot erase. Week #2: Blog Post HW (3/20)
In English Composition II and Ethnographic methods at work, we were able to explore the implications of society’s biases on our perceptions and employment. The first day we discussed the labels and static boxes society tries to impose on us, people with dynamic histories and personalities. What’s more, is that these same boxes are built upon by ethnographic, a racist and biased critical analyzation of minority groups or people with dynamic backgrounds and cultures foreign to the caucus populus. Their entire careers are dedicated to shifting and stuffing these communities in boxes, making a living off of the suffering caused by their made-made philosophies. This left a real impact on…

Week 1: Blog Post HW (3/11)
“There are more things beautiful than Beyonce.” The name of the album we reviewed in English Composition stood out to me because of its relevance to my personal life. I have a lot of family members who marvel pop culture icons of colour like Beyonce and will defend them to the core. However, it’s important that as the working class we remember that just because these people attained glory doesn’t mean that they are not actively benefiting/participating in a system built to oppress the people below them.
