My autobiography Process
For my autobiography, I didn’t focus on specific events in my life and I didn’t get too personal. I also knew we needed an object included, so I chose an apartment as my object, but also as the center of my story. I chose the apartment because it was one of the few things that remained unchanged while everything else was becoming different. The apartment had no eyes, but it witnessed everything that happened within its walls. I also didn’t really mention many people, or anyone specifically, in my story. That’s because I chose to focus more on the emotions, themes, and atmosphere that were experienced inside the apartment. I…

Blog 4: Ethnographic Film Reflection on People’s Park (2012)
People’s Park (2012) is an ethnographic film that follows everyday life in a public park in Chengdu, China through one continuous shot. The film shows people dancing, singing, exercising, socializing, and relaxing throughout the park without any narration or interviews. What stood out to me most was how comfortable the ethnographer seemed filming other people, including children, in a completely different country. The camera often got very close to people, and it made me wonder if anyone felt uncomfortable being recorded. It seemed like the filmmaker was focused on capturing everyday life regardless of whether some people might find it rude or intrusive. I also noticed that many of the…

Field Notes: Bryant Park Observation
Location: Bryant Park, New York CityDate/Time: May 20th, 2026 The park was crowded due to the warm, sunny weather. Most of the tables and chairs throughout the park were occupied. Visitors appeared to be engaged in a variety of activities. Some individuals were sitting and enjoying the outdoor environment, while others were listening to music through personal devices. Several people appeared to be working, using laptops, or participating in phone calls. A few individuals were sunbathing in the seating area. One person was observed reading while sunbathing. Despite the high number of visitors, the grassy areas remained largely empty and undisturbed. Many park visitors spent time looking at or interacting with their…

Unpacking the Shortcomings of “College and Career Readiness” as an Educative Approach in Urban Schools as Preparation for Tomorrow’s Economy This article challenges the societal belief that a college degree leads directly to success. The author is not saying that education is not valuable. Instead, they argue that when factors such as discrimination, economic inequality, and social background are involved, success becomes less certain for many minority students. The article discusses how issues like job outsourcing and racial discrimination can affect career opportunities even for highly educated individuals. I also found it interesting that the authors questioned whether schools actually prepare students for the workforce as effectively as they claim.…

blog #6
This week for English composition 2, we were brainstorming ideas for our autobiography and the way we want to present our autobiography while keeping the same emotional value. I have already brainstormed my ideas. I just need to figure out the best way to present it on paper. We also learned how activist and people with AIDS were protesting and demanding treatment that the government was not releasing because they did not see it as a major issue to be dealt with causing many to die. If medication/treatment were being released, it was at an expensive cost that could not be afforded by many so instead people were illegally acquiring…

one thing that I took away from my ethnographic class this week is that people with a high S.E.S status have more opportunities especially in the education systems. For example while the regular working class is being taught how to stay a working class and work under someone, people with higher incomes often have a hidden curriculum that they are taught in school such as learning how to become the next CEO. This is just one of the ways the rich stay rich while the working class are being told to go to college so they can have high income jobs after they graduate, only to come to the realization…
