In the Field!
It was so fun to have students come to Herbert Von King in Bed Stuy. We created a collaborative collage of found objects (image below). Did you know that the Cultural Arts Center in Herbert Von King is the only NYC Parks Rec Center that is totally FREE for members? I signed up with some students. Also, if you are under 24 all NYC Rec centers are free for you, even the ones with pools! Anyway, it was really hot so we didn’t go to Imani Community Garden as a class and did everything in the park. But some students didn’t want to leave and decided to come to Imani…

Weekly Reflection
weekly reflection 04/24/2026 during this week of ethnography and composition, we learned about the aids pandemic in the late nineteenth century; early two thousand. And Feminist Ethnography. In the film, it discussed many, stereotypes, stigmas, and propaganda that progressively lead to the worsening of the pandemic in the United States, and how lack of government funding, awareness, and protections caused the pandemic to increasingly spread and develop among citizens. Many forms of protests were seen throughout this time period, and the film conveyed the power citizens hold when they come together and fight to make a change. This directly connects to Feminist Ethnography which focuses on studying and observing Gender…

Political Intelligence
What are you living by? Is it 1Survival, 2Connection, 3Control, 4Belonging, 5Achievement, 5Understanding, 6Harmonizing or 7Sanctifying? These are different layers of relationship development. Life can be messy for so many reasons. Perhaps one one of them is that people are navigating these layers and trying to find something that works for them but having to navigate all these things can absolutely make life confusing especially if nobody spells it out for you or really even helps much.

The Light Jorge Carried.
Ovid’s auto biography Jorge was born in the Dominican Republic, and from a young age, he felt as if darkness followed him. Not regular darkness, the kind that has weight, the kind that knows your name. His father was part of that darkness: a man lost in drugs, women, and the streets. He never cared about Jorge. He never tried. He was alive, but he was a ghost. The only thing Jorge had from him was an old, faded red thread bracelet. His mother kept it safe for years and gave it to him when he turned eight. “So you remember you deserve more than what he gave you,”…

Blog 9: May 11th & 13th
In this week’s English Composition class, we spent time in class doing our autobiography assignment. I got half the assignment done and plan to finish it in the next few classes. I wrote about the object that represents something meaningful. I wrote about how my dress at my sweet 15 helped make me feel special and carefree. It took me a while to write a fake storyline for the genre alive at the end of the world. I’ve changed the genre a bit, and now it’s more of a natural disaster story. In the story, there is a flood/rain storm that ruins the party. In Ethnographic Methods at Work, we…

In English class, we started by talking about what kind of learning works best for each of us. I shared that I prefer in‑person learning because I understand material better when it’s taught directly in front of me. Being physically present helps me stay focused, ask questions, and get a more hands‑on experience with whatever we’re learning. It reminded me that learning isn’t just about the content it’s about connection, clarity.

In English class we talked about what kind of learning we prefer, I said I liked in person learning as I feel like I learn a lot better when something is taught in front of me and I can get a more hands on experience to learn the material, we also did check ins with Ms.Lipscomb and we went over our outlines for our research essays. In EthoGraphic Methods at Work, we spoke about debt and what we believed it means and as a class we spoke about how we feel about it and should we have a moral obligation to pay it back. We watched a video of an…
