This Ethnography class, I learned from this reading, how Hurricane Maria deeply transformed both the people of Puerto Rico and the author herself, revealing the emotional weight of fear, loss, and resilience in the aftermath of disaster. The experience pushed the author to rethink her entire approach to research, showing that true understanding requires listening to communities, respecting their histories, and acknowledging the impact of colonization on traditional ethnographic methods. She discovered that meaningful research must be collaborative, rooted in humility, and centered on the voices of the people living the reality not filtered through a distant academic lens. Ultimately, the text teaches that radical ethnography is about decolonizing knowledge,…

Autobiography
My name is Sumaiya Akter. and one of the most meaningful objects from my childhood are my bookshelf. There was a bookshelf in my room for as long as I can remember. It stood quietly against the wall, simple and ordinary, filled with schoolbooks, notebooks, storybooks, and papers from different years of my life. To anyone else, it may have looked like just a piece of furniture, but to me, it was much more than that. My bookshelf was a part of my childhood, my student life, and my personal growth. As a child, I spent so much time near that bookshelf. Every school year, it changed with me. New textbooks, fresh notebooks, homework assignments, and old…

In English class, we started by talking about what kind of learning works best for each of us. I shared that I prefer in‑person learning because I understand material better when it’s taught directly in front of me. Being physically present helps me stay focused, ask questions, and get a more hands‑on experience with whatever we’re learning. It reminded me that learning isn’t just about the content it’s about connection, clarity.

In Composition 2, we talk a lot about argument, perspective, and voice. These readings show how powerful it is when people who are usually silenced finally speak for themselves. The workers’ voices become arguments. Their experiences become evidence. Their collective actions become a thesis about justice and dignity. In Ethnography, I explored the themes of labor, power, and resistance through the reading A Factory Without Bosses and the companion text Worker Control in a Capitalist Environment & Imperialist Blockade. What stood out to me most was how these texts challenge the idea that workplaces must always be controlled by owners or managers. Instead, they show how workers can organize themselves,…

cultural object from my everyday life
My laptop is one of the most important objects in my everyday life because it helps me stay connected, productive, and organized. As a student, I use my laptop to complete assignments, attend online classes, and do research for my studies. It also allows me to communicate easily with my teachers and classmates through email and online platforms. Beyond school, my laptop is a source of entertainment and creativity I can watch videos, listen to music, and even work on personal projects. It saves time and gives me access to endless information with just a few clicks. In today’s digital world, my laptop is not just a device; it is…

The Horror
From reading horror story, I learned that fear often comes from the unknown and our imagination can make things seem more terrifying than they really are. It also taught me to stay calm and think logically, even in frightening situations. Many horror stories show that curiosity can sometimes lead to danger, so it is important to be careful. I also learned that courage is important, because facing fear makes us stronger. Overall, horror stories are not just scary they teach valuable lessons about bravery, awareness, and the power of the mind.
