In this week’s English Composition class, we spent time in class doing our autobiography assignment. I got half the assignment done and plan to finish it in the next few classes. I wrote about the object that represents something meaningful. I wrote about how my dress at my sweet 15 helped make me feel special and carefree. It took me a while to write a fake storyline for the genre alive at the end of the world. I’ve changed the genre a bit, and now it’s more of a natural disaster story. In the story, there is a flood/rain storm that ruins the party.

In Ethnographic Methods at Work, we watched a video about a society that bartered and how most societies change into having currency. Barter is the act of trading with one another without using money. On Wednesday, we went to Bryant Park to read  “The First 5000 Years.” My group read over the section on hierarchy. What we discussed was how, when someone donates, instead of just being thanked, you are almost harassed into donating more because you already did once. They use the example of Santa giving away presents, but no one asks for gifts on any other day besides Christmas. This shows the difference between Santa being anonymous and how we aren’t anonymous.
