Week 6-8
Week 6: Composition 2 : Activists and people with AIDS fought for better access to treatment when the government was not responding quickly to the crisis or wouldn’t because they saw it as a disease of “gays” or what not. Many important medications were delayed or too expensive for people to afford, causing some individuals to get the drugs illegally. Organizations like ACT UP protested and demanded equal treatment for AIDS patients while pushing for faster access to life-saving medicine to prevent more deaths.
week 7: Watching 5 Factories: Worker Control in Venezuela. The film showed factories in Venezuela where many workers said they worked long hours but earned very little money and also did not have benefits like health insurance. They believed the old capitalist system was unfair because bosses made most of the money while workers did most of the hard work. Workers worked among each other and helped make decisions instead of only following orders from one person.
In composition class, Each student picked an object and described it in different ways. Then we researched sources to connect the object to larger ideas and information.
Week 8: We read articles about workers in Venezuela and how they worked in factories without bosses. Taking turns reading and talking about the workers’ experiences and the challenges they faced during that time, It was interesting to learn how the factories operated and how everyone in class had different opinions and thoughts about the readings.
