In this week’s English Composition classes, we chose a symbol, wrote about what it meant, and found scholarly sources to support our interpretation. I chose the symbol, the dove, and I found sources to support the idea that a dove represents peace. On Wednesday, we started to write and find sources for our research essay. We also had to find a partner and find a relation between our topics in the essay. The topic I chose to base my research essay on is that zoos are abusive to animals. I have so far finished my introduction paragraph and found some good sources. My next step is to find which parts of the sources I will use to better support my idea of zoos being abused. 

In Ethnographic Methods at Work, we discussed the idea of unions, what they are, and what they can do. We discussed that unions are very useful in benefiting workers to get better work conditions or better wages. We also connected that the union brings people together to create more pressure on bosses to give the workers what they want. Unions protest as well, which we connected to the group Act Up, where their form to create pressure and demands was to protest against the FDA and politicians to find a cure or medication for AIDS and HIV. On Wednesday, we watched a video of worker control in Venezuela. In the video, I noticed that for these workplaces to work, there had to be a lot of organization, and everyone had to help in their own way. A lot of these workplaces paid everyone equal no worker received more or less money. Which would create a non-hierarchical workplace.
